Carrying Water, Backpacking, too Car Camping

I have tried everything to carry water on various camping and hiking trips, from the large 5-gallon hard plastic and 5-gallon collapsible container, CamelBak’s backpacks and reservoirs, or just filling multiple water bottles. Nothing has satisfied me for various uses; the 5-gallon containers were too much to lug around on a walk-in or a hike-in, the CamelBak did not work for me and was hard to clean on those first-generation models, and multiple water bottles either took up too much room in my bag or cooler.

I spent a while looking for a good reservoir and wanted to have it be very backable for a hike and for car camping. I hike with dogs, so for longer hikes, I need a little extra water; those pups can drink a lot on a trail with no lakes or streams around. The HydraPak Water Storage 6L is highly durable and packs down to a small coffee cup size. It is perfect for basecamp; you can hang it from a tree where I have used it as a water source and even just a quick clean ME-UP. I can bring it backpacking if I know it will be a longer hike and need the extra water. If it is a shorter hike, I will still use the water bottles, but having a filling station ready when I return to the car is excellent.

I could not be happier with the HydraPak 6L and would suggest this product to everyone. I may pick up an extra one for basecamp because they work so well. Their website also carries several interesting water bottles, reservoirs for hiking, soft flasks, and Water Filtration Systems. Check the website out at hydrapak.com
